Gardening Tips for Beginners

While some people may be born with green thumbs, the fact is, anyone can learn to garden. Plants and flowers will naturally thrive when given the right conditions. As long as you're aware of the particular needs of the plants you've chosen, you should be able to do fine. We're now going to talk about some of the basic core components that should be incorporated into your gardening efforts.

No garden can be healthy for long without a proper amount of water. Different plants have different water requirement so make sure you know the water requirements of all the plants in your garden. The best time to water is in the morning, which gives your plants the whole day to soak it up, especially during the summer. It's really important that the water reaches the roots of the plant and doesn't just sit on the surface. Consider investing in a sprinkler system for your garden if time is short during those premium watering times. If you want to save on water, you should seek plants that don't need as much watering.

You should be observant that your garden doesn't become a food stop for the local assortment of small animals. Raccoons, deer, and even gophers may be a source of gardening angst as the gardener tries to cope with their damage. Sometimes it only takes one hungry animal who discovers your garden to wreck it completely. A garden fence will go a long way towards solving this problem. You'll find that a short fence of approximately a yard high will suffice for keeping animals at bay. A wide variety of chemical agents to repel animals are available for sale.

It's possible to grow excellent and beautiful plants indoors during the long winter months. This may very well be the safest environment to grow new plants in because the seedlings are so well protected. When you plant them outside and a late frost occurs your seedlings are particularly vulnerable. The longer you wait, within limits of the growing season of course, to plant outside the better your odds are likely to be. Start to plan out what you want in your garden, and where you want it to be. When starting out, it's best to choose plants that grow easily in your climate. Be prepared to spend a long time and be very committed to your garden to make sure that all of your plants and vegetables grow properly.
